What is the best software for word editing or typing extensively?

I need a good program for word editing in which I can type extensively and also edit at an advanced level.
I currently have Microsoft Word 2007 and it just doesn’t feel good or comfortable to type in (does that make sense?) and I find myself being able to type easier in the simple notepad program that comes with windows.
Can anyone suggest any programs or software? Price is not an issue.

I think Open office is the best around and is 100% free.
I think You could always try WordPerfect (something like office, but easier and more power). If you want simplicity, Notepad is the way to go.
I especially like one called Notepad++
It has some great features, but is not specifically designed for normal text documents alone. Kinda like a beefed up, multi-use notepad.
OpenOffice is a good free alternative to Word, but if you are not caring for Word I am not sure if it will be much better.
I think FileGets. It’s the fastest typig program on the market.
Try miktex it’s based on TeX a typesetting system written by Donald E. Knuth ..
